May 04 the fun with a used car---continuedApparently I was too quick to feel good about myself. Though I patched the crack on my muffler, it rusted so bad that it was completly disconnected today. I had to bring it to a mechanic because repairing it invovles welding. It was not so bad, 60 bucks. It should last for a long time. May 03 the fun with a used carThe fun, as well as the pain, with a used car is that you have to fix it from time to time. After the winter is gone, my car started to sound loud when I opened my windows. I was pretty sure it was due to a crack or something like that on my muffler. So I had two choices, taking it to a mechanic or fixing it by myslef. As I was bored with writing papers, I thought I'd try to fix it myself or at least check it out first before spending a big chunk of money in a garage.
So I went to Canadian Tire and bought two packs of muffler tapes and some muffler cement. On Sunday, I cleaned the rear end of the muffler and applied some of the cement. But it didn't work. The car was still loud. Yesterday, I finally found where the crack was during my second try. The crack was prettey bad that I could feel air blowing out with my hand. After pacthing the crack, I felt the noise was much better.
In sum, it cost me $12 to fix the problem, which would be 10 times more in a garage. It was fun to do it. My next project would be to fix the lock on the passenger door. |
